Sum Yung Guys Restaurant Noosa

Meet the Sum Yung Guys

Sum Yung Guys Noosa has come a long way since four local mates opened a small restaurant on Duke Street, Sunshine Beach, in 2017. Today it calls Weyba Road in Noosaville home, and it’s still one of the hardest tables to score in town. Locals and holidaymakers alike keep coming back for its modern Asian share plates, and in 2026 it picked up a Readers’ Choice award for Asian dining from the Australian Good Food Guide.

Meet the guys

The four partners are Matt Sinclair, Dylan Campbell, Jeremiah Jones and Michael Rickard. They first met in the kitchen at Bistro C in Noosa Heads, and years later reunited to build a restaurant of their own.
You might know Matt from TV. He was runner-up on MasterChef Australia in 2016, and Noosa had long been his family’s favourite holiday spot. Each of the four has put a bit of their own personality into the place, and you can feel it the moment you walk in.

What’s on the menu

The food is modern Asian with a twist, served as small plates designed for sharing. Local produce features heavily, with seafood from Queensland waters often taking centre stage.

The Hiramasa kingfish with green scud and laksa oil is a long-time favourite. So is the Crying Tiger beef short rib, which regulars rave about. Diners also love the crispy prawn toast, and the menu changes through the year, so there’s usually something new to try.

If you’re dining as a group or can’t decide, go for the Feed Me menu and let the kitchen choose for you. There are good vegetarian and vegan options on the menu too.

The vibe

Sum Yung Guys is as much about the atmosphere as the food. Neon signs glow over walls covered in bright murals, and the room has a buzz from the moment the doors open.

Start with one of the creative cocktails, then settle in for a long, lively meal. It suits a fun first night of your holiday just as well as a celebration before you head home.

More from the team: Peli’s Noosa

If you love Sum Yung Guys, the team’s second restaurant is well worth a visit. Peli’s opened at Noosa Marina in Tewantin in September 2024, with big glass windows looking out over the Noosa River. The menu leans Mediterranean, with share plates cooked over a custom charcoal grill and a long wine list to match.
